Fettling Booths, Fettling Trolleys and Fettling Benches are generally used as standalone pieces of equipment. Orders can be placed for a combination of static Fettling Booths and mobile Fettling Trolleys, if required. Hosokawa Micron Ltd’s expert containment team can also offer a wide range of bespoke Downflow Booths and Laminar Flow Cabinets, which provide alternative clean air solutions when larger parts need to be safely manufactured in a permanent location.
Hosokawa Micron Ltd is a world-renowned containment specialist, designing and manufacturing a unique portfolio of high-performance, tailor-made containment equipment and process systems, including a range of static and mobile Fettling Booths and Fettling Benches. Utilising the latest clean air technology, our fettling booths have been developed in collaboration with a leading aircraft manufacturer to provide a safe working environment and greatly reduced operator exposure levels for all types of metalworking and precision engineering industries where polishing, filing or drilling are part of the manufacturing process, thus removing the need for engineers and fitters to wear restrictive breathing apparatus.
Suitable for localised extraction, the Fettling Booths are available in various sizes and eliminate potentially toxic airborne dust, particles and swarf from the immediate working area, safely storing the waste material until it can be disposed of or filtering the waste material before discharging clean air back into the environment. Each backdraft extraction booth offers a number of integrated safety and energy-efficient features – such as horizontal airflow away from the operator’s breathing zone, LED lighting, continual monitoring, air pressure alarms, HEPA filters and noise-reducing extractor fans – and can be tailored to meet specific industry requirements, including ATEX compliance. For larger-scale fettling, drilling and de-burring activities, a Hosokawa Micron Downflow Booth or Laminar Flow Cabinet would provide a more suitable solution.
Hosokawa Micron’s range of mobile Fettling Trolleys and static Fettling Benches are available in a range of sizes, configurations and construction materials, depending on customer requirements, and generally start at a width of one metre. Optional additional features include Hosokawa Gen4 intelligent software for remote monitoring, energy-efficient LED lighting and extractor fans.
Mobile Fettling Trolley
Compact, economical and loaded with energy-efficient features, the plug and play capability and lockable wheels of the Mobile Fettling Trolley mean the unit offers a fully transportable solution that can be up and running within minutes in a temporary location, if required.
Available in a range of sizes from one metre wide upwards, the backdraft extraction booth provides horizontal airflow, extracting particles, dust and swarf away from the operator’s breathing zone via a three-stage filtration system, including a replaceable panel filter and H13 HEPA filter. Clean air is then pumped back into the surrounding environment.
For safety, the extraction booth is constantly monitored by differential pressure gauges with an alarm feature to give visual and audible indications to signal when a filter requires changing or cleaning. A reliable air flow is maintained, even when the filter cells are dirty.
Optional Features
Static Fettling Bench
The Static Fettling Bench is the perfect option when space and location are less of an issue, as the unit can be mounted and fixed into a specific position for long-term use. It is suitable for the fettling of both large and small metal parts as the bench can be manufactured in a variety of sizes. This extraction bench offers many of the features of the Mobile Fettling Trolley, but also offers the additional convenience of an integrated Type H vacuum cleaner for on-tool extraction, a sealed unit (bin) for safe and easy dust removal and energy-efficient integrated overhead lighting.
Employing the latest clean air technology, dust, particles and swarf are safely ducted away from the operator to a remotely located reverse jet or shaker filter, where the waste material is collected and stored in a sealed unit ready for easy and safe disposal. Meanwhile, the contaminated air is extracted through an H13 HEPA filter, before being discharged back into the atmosphere as clean air. Continual efficiency monitoring of airflow and filter condition are key features.
Optional Features
A comprehensive set of containment performance tests and validations are performed on every Fettling Booth prior to the FAT at Hosokawa Micron Ltd, delivery and commissioning.
Downflow Booths and Laminar Flow Cabinets
When higher levels of operator protection and product containment are required during the manufacture of larger items such as fuselages, a Downflow Booth or Laminar Flow Cabinet would be a more suitable option than a Fettling Booth and can also be fitted with equipment such as a fettling jig and Hosokawa Gen4 remote monitoring intelligent software.
Hosokawa Micron Ltd is an expert high containment equipment manufacturer with extensive experience of manufacturing Downflow Booths and Laminar Flow Cabinets for a variety of blue-chip companies, including from the pharmaceuticals, chemicals, nuclear and cosmetics sectors. Hosokawa Micron Ltd’s range of mobile and static Fettling Booths and Fettling Benches extract dust, particles and swarf from the air, safely managing deposits created from materials such as metals, chromate (paint) dust and ceramics to protect the operator and environment.
Hosokawa Micron’s Fettling Booths and Fettling Benches provide an excellent clean air solution and can be fitted with our unique intelligent software, Hosokawa Gen4, providing important remote monitoring capabilities.
Hosokawa Micron’s high performance Fettling Booths have been developed in collaboration with a leading manufacturer in the aerospace industry to deliver a reliable and safe means of extracting potentially harmful or toxic contaminants from the air – including chromate (paint) dust, particles and swarf – during the manufacture of metal parts. The specialist equipment allows individual operators to work safely when undertaking polishing, drilling and filing tasks, without the need for restrictive breathing apparatus, and is available in two models (mobile and static) in a range of sizes, configurations and construction materials.
Mobile Fettling Trolley
The Mobile Fettling Trolley is a backdraft extraction solution that provides a horizontal airflow to extract particles away from the operator’s breathing zone, using a two-stage filtration process which includes a panel filter and HEPA filter. HEPA-filtered air is discharged into the factory working area. The fettling booth’s performance is constantly monitored by differential pressure gauges which provide a clear visual indication when a filter needs changing or cleaning. Reliable air flow can still be maintained even when the filter cells are dirty. An integrated Type H vacuum cleaner allows the operator to safely remove swarf and larger filings.
Static Fettling Bench
The Static Fettling Bench ducts dust away from the workspace to a remotely located reverse jet or shaker filter. Dust is collected into a sealed unit (bin) for easy, safe disposal. Meanwhile, air from the bench is extracted via an H13 HEPA filter before being discharged back into the atmosphere as clean air. Localised on-tool extraction and a bench cleaning vacuum can be integrated into this fettling bench, while electric sockets can also be included, if required. Explosion relief and ATEX-compliant options are also available.
