Conveniently, Hosokawa Micron systems can be made for a wide range of vessels, including drums with or without single or continuous liners, kegs, FIBCs, IBCs, boxes, sacks, bags and charge bottles.
Every Filling and Weighing System we produce can be made suitable for hazardous areas and where potentially harmful powders need to be contained for operator safety, with containment levels better than OEB 5 achievable when partnered with Hosokawa Micron containment equipment such as Laminar Flow Cabinets, Downflow Booths, Gloveboxes or Isolator systems.
A number of control systems, dosing and discharging options are possible – plus a choice of different construction materials to suit a huge number of raw materials, including painted mild steel, Hastelloy and 304-316L grade stainless steel – but all feature Hosokawa’s patented inflatable packing heads, integrated weighing platforms and combined pinch valves to automatically control the bulk and dribble modes.
Hosokawa Micron traditionally integrates outward inflating and downward sealing packing heads but for the highest levels of containment and product integrity, we also offer a compact inward sealer to the latest cGMP standards, which has the advantage of not coming into contact with the product. Conveniently, changing the inflatable seal takes less than a minute.
Filling and Weighing Systems are used extensively by industry sectors where powders, granules and liquids are processed, including for contract manufacturing, containment and milling. Accurate filling capabilities, with or without weighing functionality, are critical for the safe handling of valuable, hazardous and challenging materials, which can be transferred to containers including drums, kegs, bags, sacks, IBCs and FIBCs, bottles and boxes, as per customer requirements.
Key Features
Filling and Weighing Systems are integral to many Hosokawa Micron process systems. Their purpose is to facilitate the bulk transfer of processed material such as powders, particles and liquids for the purposes of onward processing or storage.
For hazardous material, such as APIs, fine chemicals, nuclear material or potentially dangerous liquids, a containment component may be required for safe handling, such as a Laminar Flow Cabinet or multi-chamber Isolator/Glovebox.
The method of discharging the processed material into the chosen container – drum, charge bottle, bag, sack, FIBC or IBC – is critically important for the safety of the operator, the environment and for the purity of the material. Depending on the material being processed, there are a number of ways to discharge the material, including by gravity, vibration, gas extraction and vacuum transfer.
Premium quality components – such as valves, filters and sealing heads – are required to efficiently seal the processing equipment and filling system to ensure dust-free transfer of the material as it transits from one to the other. In the case of material transiting to containers such as drums and kegs, single or continuous liner systems might be integrated and incorporate an outward inflatable sealing head or compact inward sealing head, with a variety of sealing methods available to seal the container’s inner bag, such as crimps, clasps or heat sealing.
Accurate dosing can also be achieved by Hosokawa’s Filling and Weighing Systems. The equipment uses components such as our patented Pinch Valve, a tubular or traditional screw feeder or various valves – rotary valve, oscillating valve, composite valve, butterfly valve.
Hosokawa Micron also offers sampling equipment, which can be fitted into the design of the Filling and Weighing System for the purposes of testing and analysing samples of the processing material during production.

Controls can be supplied for reliable use in harsh environments. Key features include options for push button or HMi control, as well as full integration with the site DCS. Volumetric or gravimetric filling options are available, incorporating high accuracy dosing and weighing systems.
For containment systems where hygiene is paramount, we additionally offer ‘clean/wash in place’ components for the Filling and Weighing System, including Tundish drain connections.
