Grinding, mixing, and drying of algae produces a completely natural calcinated seaweed rich in minerals. This calcined seaweed is high in magnesium oxide and can be used as a powdered organic livestock feed.
Hosokawa Micron’s two stage seaweed processing system is designed to handle wet, moist, gritty seaweed, delivering fine to coarse, freshly harvested seaweed for drying or further processing.
The fibrous, wet, and often sandy or gritty, seaweed is however difficult to process with costly and time-consuming drying times. To reduce the drying process seaweed is often chopped to facilitate more rapid, less nutrient destructive drying processes.
Two-Stage Size reduction
First stage
The Hosokawa Micron Pre-Breaker is perfect for light to heavy-duty crushing and pre-crushing duties (prior to fine micronising, for example) and is capable of cutting and shearing all manner of raw materials that require size reduction, including difficult-to-process materials such as seaweed and wood, as well as material prone to crumbling.
Second stage
The Hosokawa Micron Vertical Disintegrator is designed for the reduction of fine to coarse, wet, moist or dry materials, and provides automatic and continuous separation of disintegration resistant materials with redirection through the system from the exclusive secondary discharge.
Uniform particle size is achieved as materials are subjected to repeated impact and attritional force from the high speed rotating hammers, and carried by centrifugal force through a perforated sizing screen. The vertical screen frees itself of product instantaneously during processing, which is ideal for products with a high moisture content.
The sturdy system can operate at 12-20t/h and only produces low noise emissions. It delivers product in a narrow particle size distribution, resulting in higher yields and less effluent.
The Disintegrator is designed to withstand corrosion caused by the low pH often involved in the process and erosion caused by the natural inclusions which determines a predominant use of higher abrasion resistant materials of manufacture.
