Custom-built from long-lasting materials, such as coated mild steel or stainless steel (depending on requirements), our high-performance booths can be supplied individually, in multiple units or as part of a process system, and provide protection for the operator, the environment and the integrity of the material being processed. The individually designed solutions feature the latest technology, integrate a rear plenum chamber with air control valves and are engineered to be as user-friendly as possible while also being easy to clean and maintain to minimise the risk of contamination.

Additional features include energy-efficient internal lighting and integrated handheld tools, subject to customer requirements. We also offer a number of additional options that further enhance the functionality of the equipment – such as contained safe change filters and filling and weighing systems – and have the capability to zonally design the Horizontal Laminar Flow Booth to accommodate various processes and equipment to ensure compliance to internationally recognised safety standards.

Hosokawa Micron’s Horizontal Laminar Flow Booth is used across a wide range of manufacturing industries to safely manage processes that generate hazardous airborne particles or fumes. Unlike Downflow Booths, this system allows operators to work from outside the booth while still achieving high levels of containment and protection. Typical applications include charging and discharging materials, drum tipping, product inspection, dispensing, vacuum transfer, and solvent or liquid pumping.

The booth is especially effective in scenarios requiring precise material handling and contamination control, such as filling and weighing operations. It supports both manual and automated workflows, making it ideal for industries like pharmaceuticals, chemicals, food, and cosmetics, where operator safety and product integrity are paramount.

How Does It Work

Hosokawa Micron’s Horizontal Laminar Flow Booth operates by delivering a non-turbulent, once-through laminar airflow horizontally across the work zone, drawing airborne particles and vapours away from the operator’s breathing area and into the rear-wall exhaust plenum. This ensures a clean, controlled environment that protects the operator, the surrounding workspace and product integrity during potentially hazardous processing tasks.

Air is extracted through the perforated rear wall and passed through high-efficiency filters to safely capture any contaminants. The booth’s open-fronted design enables the operator to perform tasks from outside the enclosure, such as dispensing, charging, weighing or transferring materials. With a minimum airflow velocity of 0.5 m/s and the option to integrate CIP systems, weighing units or additional processing equipment, the booth is highly adaptable to complex, high-containment manufacturing requirements across pharmaceutical, chemical, food and other specialist sectors.
