You’ll play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in line with agreed technical specifications.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Liaising with customers on design aspects of active projects
  • Develop equipment and component designs using 2D and /or 3D CAD as required
  • Specification and integration 3rd party components and equipment into overall system design
  • Liaise with the mechanical and electrical project team
  • Participate in design reviews & HAZOPs and ensure designed equipment is reviewed for functionality and safety
  • Produce calculations and carry out design substantiation using tools including FEA to ensure equipment is fit for purpose and safe to operate
  • Implement all relevant design standards and ensure equipment and components are designed in accordance with good engineering practice including consideration of tolerancing, strength of materials, specification of weld procedures/weld testing and standards as required
  • Produce Bills of Materials (BOMs) for completed designs in the required format to enable procurement of equipment and components
  • Ensure the procedures for working in the company’s CAD management system (AutoDesk Vault) and CAD design standards are followed
  • Review client issued documentation and assist the Project Manager in ensuring critical information is captured and implemented in the equipment design
  • Produce detailed manufacturing drawings and assembly drawings
  • Assist the Project Manager & Project Engineer with the Inspection of equipment and key components
  • Work with the Project Manager & Project Engineer to ensure that designs are produced in line with material and labour budgets
  • Assist with the development and documenting of standard designs for Hosokawa equipment and components
  • Oversight of sub-contract design engineering and integration of sub-contract designs into overall system design
  • Integration of control system components into the system design

Note: the above list of duties and responsibilities is not exhaustive and involvement in other aspects of work within the Technical Operations groups may be required.

Experience and qualifications/knowledge/skills

  • Degree qualified in mechanical engineering or recognised mechanical engineering qualification
  • Competent in the use of 2D and 3D Autocad/Inventor CAD software
  • Experience of working to schedules and working in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience of designing special purpose machinery and related components in highly regulated industries (eg. Pharmaceutical, Nuclear, Chemical etc.)
  • Knowledge of designing fabricated and machined components including specifying weld details, machining tolerances etc.
  • An understanding of design of equipment for compliance with relevant safety and regulatory requirements including the Machinery Directive, CE & UKCA
  • Experience in the design of gloveboxes and other containment systems would be advantageous
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel
