Our Sustainability Pillars

Our sustainability approach is built around three core pillars: Planet, People and Preservation. These pillars guide all our actions and help us operate more sustainably.

Planet

We are committed to reducing our environmental impact through certified sustainable practices, including achieving ISO 14001 standards, cutting our carbon footprint by 40% and reaching Net Zero for scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030.

People

We foster a culture of collaboration and responsibility, engaging our teams and stakeholders to promote social value, health, safety and continuous improvement across all aspects of our business.

Preservation

We prioritise long-term business resilience by integrating environmental, social and governance principles into our operations, supporting circularity, resource efficiency and innovation for a sustainable future.

Our Milestones & Commitments

The road to sustainability is built by setting measurable goals. From setting a clear emissions baseline in 2019 to ambitious targets like achieving Net Zero for scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030, our journey reflects continuous improvement and responsible business practices that benefit both the environment and our communities.

2016 — Global Goals for Sustainable Development Launched

The United Nations launched the SDGs, establishing a global roadmap for responsible business practices by 2030. Hosokawa Micron is committed to supporting these goals through its expertise in health, climate, energy, and circular economy initiatives.

2019 — Established Our Emissions Baseline

We at Hosokawa Micron set our financial year baseline for monitoring Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions. This baseline was critical for tracking progress and setting measurable sustainability targets.

2020 — Initial Emissions Data Recorded

Total emissions were recorded at 530 tCO2e, marking an 8% reduction from the baseline. This early data provided a foundation to assess ongoing sustainability efforts.

2021 — Sustainability Team Formation & Focused Goals

A dedicated sustainability team was formed with representatives from all departments, setting a goal to reduce the carbon footprint by 40% over five years. Total emissions were 554 tCO2e, reflecting a 4% reduction from baseline amid pandemic challenges.

2022 — Public Reporting to Tokyo Stock Exchange

The Hosokawa Micron Group began publicly reporting its sustainability goals and achievements to the Tokyo Stock Exchange, enhancing transparency and accountability. Emissions dropped significantly to 408 tCO2e, a 41% reduction from baseline.

2023 — Progress Towards Carbon Reduction

Hosokawa Micron maintained strong momentum in reducing its carbon footprint, with total emissions recorded at 371 tCO2e, representing a 54% reduction from the baseline.

2024 (Projected) — Continuing Emissions Reduction & Energy Efficiency

The company aims to further reduce emissions to 320 tCO2e (56% reduction). Planned initiatives include ongoing energy efficiency upgrades, transitioning to low-emission fleet vehicles, and installing solar photovoltaic systems.

2030 (Target) — Achieving Net Zero Emissions

Hosokawa Micron is committed to reaching Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions for Scope 1 and Scope 2 by 2030, ensuring a sustainable and responsible future.

Our Emissions Reduction Progress

Since establishing our baseline in FY 2019, we’ve taken meaningful action across the business to embed sustainability into daily operations. Our results wholeheartedly reflect that commitment.
